The United Auto Workers union has authorized strike action at three Stellantis manufacturing plants after accusing the automaker of failing to follow through on $19 billion in factory investment commitments made during the 2023 contract negotiations.

UAW President Shawn Fain said Stellantis has delayed or canceled planned upgrades at facilities in Belvidere, Illinois; Toledo, Ohio; and Kokomo, Indiana. The union is demanding a firm timeline with financial penalties for missed deadlines.

Stellantis responded by citing challenging market conditions and said it remains committed to its investment plans but needs flexibility on timing. The current contract allows targeted strikes over investment disputes, a provision negotiated specifically for this scenario.
