Toyota and Mazda announced an expanded technical partnership on Tuesday that will see Mazda adopt Toyota's fifth-generation hybrid powertrain technology across its lineup. The agreement builds on the companies' existing relationship at their joint manufacturing facility in Huntsville, Alabama.

Under the new terms, Mazda will integrate Toyota's hybrid system into the next-generation Mazda3, CX-50, and CX-70 models beginning in 2028. The arrangement allows Mazda to meet increasingly strict fuel economy standards without bearing the full cost of developing its own electrified drivetrains.

Industry analysts view the deal as a strategic win for both companies. Toyota gains additional scale for its hybrid components while Mazda secures access to proven technology that can reduce development costs by an estimated $2 billion over the next decade.
