Rivian has confirmed that reservations for its R2 compact SUV have exceeded 200,000 units, a milestone that underscores strong consumer demand for more affordable electric vehicles. The R2, priced starting at $45,000, is expected to begin deliveries this summer from Rivian's new Normal, Illinois production line.
Unlike the larger R1S and R1T, the R2 uses a new platform designed for higher production volumes and lower manufacturing costs. Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe told investors the company expects to produce 50,000 R2 units in the second half of 2026.
