Rivian officially opened orders for the R2 compact SUV on Monday, confirming a starting price of $45,000 and an EPA-estimated range of 310 miles on its standard battery pack. The vehicle marks Rivian's push into the mainstream EV market after years of focusing on premium trucks and SUVs.
The R2 features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing 330 horsepower, a 11.4-inch infotainment display, and Rivian's latest driver-assistance suite. An optional Performance package adds a third motor and boosts output to 490 horsepower for an additional $8,000.
Production will begin at the company's Normal, Illinois plant in the third quarter of 2026. Rivian says it already has over 90,000 reservations and expects to reach a production rate of 50,000 units annually by early 2027.
