General Motors has issued a recall affecting approximately 185,000 Silverado 1500 trucks from the 2022 and 2023 model years due to brake line corrosion concerns. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration confirmed the recall after receiving 47 complaints about reduced braking performance.
The issue stems from a protective coating that was improperly applied during manufacturing at GM's Fort Wayne Assembly plant. Affected vehicles may experience brake fluid leaks in regions where road salt is commonly used during winter months.
Dealers will inspect and replace corroded brake lines at no charge. Owners will receive notification letters beginning May 1, though GM urges anyone experiencing soft brake pedals to schedule service immediately.
