The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened a formal investigation into the 2024-2025 Toyota RAV4 after receiving 425 complaints of sudden unintended acceleration, including reports of 8 crashes and 3 injuries.

The Complaints

Owners report the vehicle accelerating suddenly without throttle input, particularly when transitioning from reverse to drive. The issue affects approximately 850,000 vehicles sold in the US.

Toyota's Response

Toyota said it is cooperating fully with NHTSA and conducting its own investigation. The company has not issued a recall but advises affected owners to contact their dealers.
