General Motors reported today that it sold over 100,000 electric vehicles in the United States during the first quarter of 2026, marking a record for the automaker and a 78% increase over the same period last year. The Chevrolet Equinox EV led the charge with 42,000 units, followed by the Blazer EV at 23,000 and the Silverado EV at 18,000.
The milestone comes as GM continues to expand its Ultium-based lineup across multiple brands and price points. Cadillac's Lyriq contributed 12,000 units to the total while the new Escalade IQ added another 5,500 since its January launch. GM CFO Paul Jacobson said the EV division is on track to achieve variable cost profitability by the fourth quarter of this year.
The results position GM as the second-largest EV seller in the US behind Tesla, which reported approximately 180,000 domestic deliveries for Q1. Ford and Hyundai Motor Group rounded out the top four. Industry analysts noted that total US EV market penetration reached 14.2% in Q1, up from 10.8% a year ago.
