General Motors has issued a massive recall affecting 2.1 million Chevrolet, GMC, and Cadillac SUVs from model years 2021-2025 due to a brake system defect that could increase stopping distances.
Affected Models
- Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban (2021-2025)
- GMC Yukon and Yukon XL (2021-2025)
- Cadillac Escalade (2021-2025)
- Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (2022-2025)
The Problem
A software glitch in the electronic brake boost system can cause a momentary loss of power-assisted braking during certain driving conditions. GM has received 847 complaints and 12 reports of minor accidents linked to the issue.
What Owners Should Do
GM will notify owners by mail starting May 1, 2026. Dealers will update the brake control module software free of charge. The repair takes approximately 30 minutes. Owners can check their VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if their vehicle is affected.
