Ford Motor Company announced a recall of approximately 145,000 F-150 Lightning pickup trucks from the 2024 through 2026 model years due to a software bug in the battery management system. The issue can cause the vehicle to incorrectly estimate remaining range, potentially leaving drivers stranded with inaccurate state-of-charge readings on the dashboard.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said it received 312 complaints related to the issue, though no crashes or injuries have been reported. Ford said the fix involves an over-the-air software update that most owners will receive automatically within the next two weeks.

Owners who prefer not to wait can schedule an appointment at their local Ford dealership where the update takes roughly 45 minutes to install. Ford emphasized that the recall is precautionary and that the underlying battery hardware is not affected. This marks the third software-related recall for the Lightning lineup since its launch in 2022.
